The dentist will use a scraper to remove plaque and tartar from the teeth above and below the gum line. Additionally, plaque and tartar buildup on the tooth roots will be removed. You’ll then have a fresh start. Always floss. If your dentist suggests using mouthwash to help eliminate plaque between your teeth, do so. Use an interdental cleaner in addition to brushing and flossing your teeth, such as a dental pick, interdental brush, or dental stick.
Gum disease may result in bone and tooth loss if left untreated. A professional cleaning should suffice if gum disease is detected early and hasn’t already harmed the structures beneath the gum line. However, scaling and root planing can be required if your gum and tooth pockets are too deep.
Gingivitis. The most prevalent and mildest type of periodontitis is gingivitis. Toxins in plaque are the root cause of this disorder, which can progress to more severe forms of periodontal disease.
